BA-MA-006 Carmilla

Artifact Description

A mourning adornment fashioned in the form of a skull pendant, distinguished by an unusually complete arrangement of dark crystal and metallic ornamentation. Though sharing the characteristic division between plain surface and embellishment found among related entries, Carmilla preserves a greater visual weight, giving the impression of completeness without excess. Entered into the Ledger as an object whose ornament serves the form rather than obscures it.

Provenance

The precise origin remains unconfirmed. No authenticated example has arrived with accompanying documentation, nor has any continuous history been established between recorded specimens. Its present construction reflects careful modern workmanship, while its arrangement recalls mourning ornaments whose aesthetic has endured far longer than their makers.

The Archive preserves these observations without assigning preference to any proposed account of its origin.

Observations

Recorded examples consistently appear more fully ornamented than other entries of comparable form while remaining unmistakably identifiable as Carmilla. Differences are limited chiefly to the arrangement of individual stones and decorative elements, none of which have altered the defining character of the artifact.

Those encountering Carmilla frequently remark that the piece appears unexpectedly complete, as though nothing further could reasonably be added or removed. The consistency of this impression has warranted permanent inclusion within the record.

Preservation Note

Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture and all perfumed oils. Store where the jeweled surface cannot bear unnecessary weight or abrasion. Tarnish developing within recessed ornamentation should be regarded as part of the natural aging of the metal and should not be removed with aggressive polishing compounds.
