BA-MA-007 Rosalind

Artifact Description

A mourning adornment fashioned in the form of a skull pendant, distinguished by a rose-colored finish and an abundant arrangement of pearls and iridescent crystal. Though unmistakably belonging to the Mourning Adornments collection, Rosalind departs from the austerity commonly associated with such pieces, demonstrating that remembrance need not always be expressed in somber tones. Entered into the Ledger as an object in which affection and mortality are preserved in equal measure.

Provenance

The precise origin remains unconfirmed. Its present construction reflects careful modern workmanship, while its ornament recalls the sentimental jewelry of an earlier age, when mourning and devotion were often expressed through beauty rather than restraint. No authenticated example has been accompanied by documentation sufficient to establish a continuous history.

The Archive records these observations without assigning preference to any proposed account of its origin.

Observations

Recorded examples differ in the arrangement of pearls and crystal while preserving the distinctive rose finish by which Rosalind is readily recognized. The iridescent stones frequently produce subtle changes in color under varying light, lending each specimen a slightly different character without altering its identity.

Visitors to the Repository often remark that Rosalind appears unexpectedly gentle despite its familiar form. The consistency of this observation has warranted permanent inclusion within the record.

Preservation Note

Keep from damp and from all perfumed oils. Store where the jeweled surface cannot bear unnecessary weight or abrasion. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to preserve the richness of the colored finish and the brilliance of the crystal ornamentation.
