BA-MA-003 Mourning Cameo

 Artifact Description
An oval resin cameo depicting the skeletal profile of a woman, her hair swept back in elaborate waves. The ivory-toned relief is set against black and enclosed within an ornate, antique-bronze frame.

Provenance
The piece arrived without maker’s mark or accompanying documentation. Its design follows the visual traditions of Victorian mourning jewelry, though its construction is decidedly more recent.

 Observations
There is something curious in the contrast: the elaborate hair remains untouched by death, while the face beneath it has been reduced entirely to bone. Whether intended as remembrance, warning, or simple memento mori is not recorded. 

 Preservation Note
Resin impression. Protect from prolonged heat and direct sunlight; store flat or suspended to prevent abrasion to the raised relief.
